How did we get to the point?

I can understand why people are skeptical of govt. I can definately understand people who say "Just because the govt says so, doesn't mean it must be true."

All fair enough.

But when did we get to the point where just because "someone does NOT work for the govt, they must be telling the truth?"

How did we get to the point where some religously, blindly follow The Alex Jones and Dylan Avery's of the world simply because they "are not part of the govt, so that proves they are telling the truth?"

Why is the skepticism restricted to government only?
